iPhone 16: the most common breakdowns and how to avoid them
Discover the most common iPhone 16 breakdowns and our tips to prevent them. Screen, battery, USB-C connector: everything you need to know.
The iPhone 16 was released in September 2024 and has already won over millions of users with its elegant design, A18 processor and USB-C connector. But like any smartphone, it is not immune to breakdowns. After several months of repairs in our 6 Safe stores, here are the most common problems we encounter on the iPhone 16 and our tips to avoid them.
1. Broken OLED screen: the number 1 breakdown
Unsurprisingly, a broken screen remains the most requested repair. Despite the latest generation Ceramic Shield, the iPhone 16's OLED screen can crack when dropped, especially on the corners. Symptoms range from a simple cosmetic crack to black spots, green lines or loss of touch responsiveness.
Our tip: invest in a quality tempered glass and a case with raised edges. These two accessories under €30 can save you a repair costing over €249. At Safe, we offer free installation of your screen protector with purchase.
2. Damaged USB-C connector
The USB-C port is more universal but also more exposed: dust, pocket lint, rough cable insertions can damage the internal pins. Symptoms include: intermittent charging, cable that won't stay in place, or impossible data transfer.
Before thinking about a repair, try gently cleaning the port with a wooden toothpick (never metal!). If the problem persists, our technicians can replace the connector in about 45 minutes.
3. Battery draining too fast
Even though the iPhone 16 has a larger battery, some users notice decreased battery life. The causes: power-hungry apps in the background, intensive 5G use, maximum brightness or use in very cold weather.
Our tips: enable Low Power Mode, disable 5G when 4G is sufficient, enable Optimised Charging and don't leave your iPhone in the sun. Check your battery health in Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
4. Camera problems
The iPhone 16 features a powerful but fragile 48 MP camera system. Breakdowns include: stuck autofocus, blurry photos, inactive front camera and faulty flash. These problems are often caused by drops or infiltrated dust.
5. Face ID failure
Face ID is essential and its failure is frustrating. Common causes: a drop that displaced the infrared projector, unprofessional screen replacement or a software bug after an update. At Safe, our technicians preserve Face ID during every repair.
